MAPK8 kinase expression is induced by heavy metals, abscisic acid (ABA) and infection with rice blast fungus (M.grisea) and down-regulated by high temperature and UV-C. SERF1 has a binding site in MPK8 promoter region. In comparision to wildtype plants, the serf1 mutant plants do not show induction of MPK8 in response to salt-stress. Thus, MPK8 gene expression is directly regulated by SERF1 TF (Schmidt et al., 2013).
