OsADL1 plays an important role in pattern formation of the leaf and embryo by promoting proper epidermal development. In ADL1 mutant, leaf blades shows ectopic bulliform-like cells in the abaxial epidermis and leaves are adaxialized at least partially (Hibara et al., 2009).
