Plant Reactome is a pathway portal of the Gramene Database. Plant Reactome’s continued success will be determined by the extent to which we meet the needs of current users and reach out to new potential users. Outreach takes on a variety of forms, such as public talks, classroom lectures for graduate and undergraduate students, visiting universities and colleges, and supporting traditional science events (meetings, conferences, and workshops/community curation jamborees). Education is a major focus of the Plant Reactome community outreach and aims to inform educators, plant researchers, and bioinformaticians about how Plant Reactome can support their own projects. We have been reaching out to train undergraduate/graduate students and senior researchers in using this resource on a one-to-one basis at onsite workshops at various conferences (see http://gramene.org/outreach). In addition, we have conducted several monthly webinars (Gramene Database Youtube channel) to reach to plant research community to 1) explain the various features and analytical tools offered by Plant Reactome platform; 2) collaborating with bioinformaticians and software developers working with publicly funded genomic databases on data interoperability and accessibility issues;, and 3) with the genomic community on standardization and formatting of various types of genomic data and other policy issues. Therefore, we offer a series of outreach and training programs and collaborate with the research community at various levels.

We re-use the Reactome data model and software developed by Human Reactome project and improvise it to suit the needs of the plant models.
