text Glucose-6-phosphate translocator (GPT) transports G6P into plastids (Qu et al., 2021). OsGPT1 is highly expressed in the tapetal layer of rice anther and plays an important role in sporophytic control of tapetum degeneration and pollen development. In contrast, Arabidopsis AtGPT1 plays a role in gametophytic control of pollen development (Qu et al., 2021). OsGPT2 is expressed in most tissues and is likely to contribute to starch synthesis in the leaves and roots.
