The rice gene OsHMT/Os01g0125600 is not characterized, but its barley ortholog HORVU.MOREX.r3.2HG0126380.1 (HMT) is well characterized. The barley HMT encodes Heavy metal transport protein localized to the cytoplasm and the nucleus (Guo et at., 2023; PMID: 36604847). HMT gene shows differential transcription in response to gravistimulation, and in transgenic barley plants containing egt2 mutation. HMT protein has been shown to interact with EGT2 protein in Bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFc) and yeast two-hybrid assay (Guo et at., 2023; PMID: 36604847).
