Os05g0276500 gene encodes OsEXPA protein. It barley ortholog HORVU3Hr1G076640, shows lower expression in the barley egt2 mutant?s root elongation zone when compared to wild-type plant (Kirschner et al., 2021; PMID: 34446550). Thus, it is likely to be up-regulated directly or indirectly by EGT2. Expansins facilitate cell expansion by mediating pH-dependent cell wall (CW) loosening (PMID: 37073485). It is proposed that EGT2-TF upregulates expansins leading to horizontal root growth and plays a negative role in root gravitropism.
