text OsWx gene encodes a granule-bound starch synthase I (GBSSI) and functions to synthesize large amounts of extra-long unit chains (ELCs) of amylopectin. Complementation of OsWx gene into the null-mutant waxy (wx) rice showed increase in amylose content due to a significant amount of ELCs of amylopectin, that were absent in the non-transgenic wx cultivars (Hanashiro et al., 2008).
