text GS3 functions as a negative regulator to prevent the growth of the grain size (Fan et al., 2006). Overexpression of GS3 reduce plant size, including shortened height, leaves, and panicles, in addition to short grains (Mao et al., 2010). Based on RNA in situ hybridization studies, higher expression of GS3 was observed in young panicle, and the signal gradually decreased with panicle development. Weak signals were observed in embryo, shoot apical meristem, leaf, and stem (Mao et al., 2010).
