text miR159a mediated cleavage of OsGAMYB and OsGAMYBL1 mRNA was occured in rice anthers. OsGAMYB and OsGAMYBL1 are not transcribed in vegetative organs. In miR159 overexpression lines, reduced level of mRNAs for OsGAMYB and OsGAMYBL1 was observed in transgenic callus. Negative correlations were observed between the expression levels of OsGAMYB and OsGAMYBL1 and the miR159 expression. miR159 overexpressing lines show severe defect in elongation of top internode and developed malformed flowers within the leaf sheaths. Knockout mutants of OsGAMYB and GAMYBL1 also showed similar defect.
