The rice GADs have putative active site domain containing a conserved S-X-X-K motif, in which a lysine (K) is the site responsible for binding a cofactor pyridoxal 5?-phosphate (PLP). This is not common only to GADs but also to PLP-requiring enzymes such as an alanine aminotransferase.
