text	XAX1 (LOC_Os02g22380) is a glycosyltransferase belonging to the grass-specific subfamily GT61. XAX1 was identified from a xylose-deficient loss-of-function rice mutant. Heterologous expression of wheat and rice XAX1 like genes in Arabidopsis leads to arabinosylation of xylan in Arabidopsis, which indicates that this particular member of the glycosyl transferase family GT61 can mediate transfer of arabinofuranosyl residues onto xylan in rice and other grasses.
