Summation

PIN-FORMED 2 (PIN2), a transporter in the plasma membrane, is involved in the basipetal polar auxin transport that plays a positive role in gravitropism. VILLIN2 (VLN2) protein is involved in recycling PIN2 auxin transporter between endosome and plasma membrane ((Wu et al., 2015; Kirschner et al., 2024). A rice vln2 mutant has a hyper-gravitropic phenotype (twisted roots and shoots) caused by faster recycling of OsPIN2, and thereby altered auxin distribution. VLN2 is involved in actin filament bundling, severing, and capping in a calcium-dependent manner. The VLN2 promotes anti-gravitropic growth (negative gravitropism).
