Summation

TILLER INCLINED GROWTH 1 (TIG1) is a TCP transcriptional activator that promotes the tiller angle in wild ancestors of rice. TIG1 is primarily expressed in the axillary bud meristem at the seedling stage and in the tiller base at the tillering stage. TIG1 promotes cell elongation and enlarges the tiller angle, possibly via positively regulating the EXPPA3, EXPB5, and SAUR39 expression. In the O. sativa indica cultivars, the tig1 allele has genetic variation in the promoter that causes reduced expression of TIG1) in the adaxial side of the tiller base and reduced cell length and tiller angle, leading to the transition from inclined tiller growth in wild rice to erect tiller growth. The tig1 allele was selected in indica cultivars by human beings indirectly while selecting for the compact plant phenotype (Zhang et al., 2019). TIG1 TF binds to G(T/C)GGNCCC sites in the promoters of its target genes.
