SPW1 is a APETALA3 homolog, OsMADS16 and homeotic mutation in SPW1 transforms stamens and lodicules into carpels and palea-like organs, respectively. Expression of SPW1 was observed in incipient primordia of lodicules and stamens in wild-type flowers.
