DEP1, a G protein ? subunit, has been shown to involved in the regulation of erect panicle, number of grains per panicle, nitrogen uptake, and stress-tolerance. It is a component of the G protein signal cascade.
OsDEP1 encodes phosphatidylethanolamine binding protein-like protein and regulates panicle length and grain number in rice. Mutation in dep1 locus exhibit reduced length of inflorescence internodes, increased number of grains per panicle with increased grain yield.
