Summation

QHB (Quiescent-center-specific homeobox) encodes an HD homologous to WUS and specifically expressed in the Quiescent Center (QC) cells. QHB may function to identify the QC as the organizing center and prohibit the differentiation of the neighboring initial cells of the root apical meristem, in the same way as WUS does in the shoot apical meristem. QHB is expressed early during root formation in the QC, and its expression is dependent on CRL1/ARL1 during crown root formation (Inukai et al., 2005). QHB is positively regulated by FSM and is part of gene regulatory cascade required for crown root devlopment (Lavarenne et al., 2019).
