Sphinganine kinase (SphK) utilizes sphinganine and ATP as substrates to synthesize Sphinganine-1-phopshate (S1P). SphK is stimulated by the phytohormone abscisic acid in guard cells of Arabidopsis thaliana and S1P is effective in regulating guard cell turgor in leaves (Coursol et al . 2005).
