Summation

Rice DEX1 is a calcium binding protein that plays a crucial role to maintain calcium homeostasis and regulate tapetal degradation and pollen wall formation. It is evolutionarily conserved in dicots and monocots. GFP fusion experiments demonstrates that OsDEX1 localizes in endoplasmic reticulam (ER) and may regulate tapetal cell death via modulating calcium homeostasis between ER and other cellular compartments (Yu et al., 2016).
