Summation

Defective Pollen Wall (DPW) gene encodes a fatty acyl-CoA reductase essential for pollen exine and anther cuticle development. DPW protein predominantly localizes in plastids of tapetal cells during anther development. Loss of function of DPW gene cause abnormalities to anther surface and pollen wall and reduction in number of secretory, lipid Ubisch bodies (Shi et al., 2011).
