Xyloglucan content in grass cell walls (~5%) is much lower than in eudicots (~20%) and it has been suggested that arabinoxylan, which is highly abundant in grasses (20-40%), plays an equivalent role in these walls. However, several xyloglucan 6-xylosytransferase genes have been predicted in Oryza sativa and OsXXT1 (LOC_Os03g18820) is able to complement Arabidopssis xylosytransferase mutants
