Summation

Strigolactones are carotenoid-derived phytohormones that have diverse roles in plant development and the regulation of various stressors. Strigolactones are synthesized from ?-carotene through a series of enzymatic reactions involving DWARF27 (D27), D17, D10, and MORE AXILLARY GROWTH1 (MAX1).
Beta carotene cleavage occurs in the plastids, while carlactone to strigolactone conversion is in the cytosol.
