Convert pyruvate and L-glutamate to L-alanine and Alpha-ketoglutarate. Reaction also procedes in the opposite direction giving pyruvate and L-glutamate as products. In Arabidopsis thaliana the enzymes that catalyze this reaction are empirically reported to have four aminotranferase activities
